Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's attempts to gain popularity in the mainstream were unsuccessful. Prior to any new music could even be put out, two record labels had signed and dropped Perry. Capitol Records however released Perry's EP Ur So Gay in 2007. Ur So Gay's title track was a cheerfully flippant track that received little notice. I Kissed a Girl, a confident ode to her sexual curiosity with a hard-edged electronic pop beat, was a big sensation a couple of months later. Many critics accused the track as a sly reference to homosexuality and others believed the song's sexually explicit lyrics were intended to attract male fantasies. I Kissed a Girl became the number one hit in the world due to the combination of excitement and an elegant melody. It also helped her sell a number of albums, including The One of the Boys. Hot N Cold, Perry's bouncy and sharply-tongued album with the song that was its second biggest hit became a huge hit. The album that Perry wrote herself, sold over three million copies.
